The Long Island Index project has been building momentum since January to focus attention on bold new approaches to suburban life. The Center for Urban Reseearch's interactive maps for the Index -- at www.LongIslandIndexMaps.org -- provide a powerful toolset to visualize challenges and showcase opportunities for improvement.
Here's a round up of recent news reports & blog posts highlighting the Index project and the online maps:
- Build a Better Burb - an "ideas competition" to retrofit Long Island's downtowns. The tagline: "The time for thinking cautiously is over. New visions are needed for the next generation of suburban centers." Submission deadline: June 21, 2010. Up to $22,500 in cash prizes!
- Long Island Newsday is featuring the Index maps as a resource for readers and with integrated links to news reports. Here are some examples (website registration may be required):
