New York, NY (June 11, 2010) -- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
produces quarterly estimates on the rate of change in employer costs for wages
and benefits, as well as measures of the cost per hour worked that employers
spend on their wages and a number of different benefits. BLS makes data
available for the nation as a whole, for metropolitan regions, and for various industry and occupation
groups.
A few years ago, BLS began releasing quarterly data on the rate
of change in employer wage and benefit costs for selected metropolitan areas,
including New York City. Beginning Thursday, June 10, 2010, data on
the cost per hour worked for wages and benefits became available at the metropolitan area level too.
On Friday June 11, 2010 the NYCLMIS hosted a presentation by Bureau of
Labor Statistics' Associate Commissioner William Wiatrowski showcasing traditional and newly available data from the National Compensation Survey. His superb presentation included snapshots and trends of wages and other benefits
earned by private sector workers by industry, occupation, and collective bargaining
coverage among other features. About 50 economists, planners, workforce providers and policy makers attended the event held at the Elebash Recital Hall at the Graduate Center. For those of you who missed the presentation or who attended and would like to review the material, the PowerPoint presentation is available here.
