David Burgoon works with CUR staff and clients to design and develop geographic information system (GIS) applications. His more than 10 years of professional experience in GIS and application development enables him to leverage the latest mapping techniques to create effective interactive tools for analyzing and visualizing spatial data. Most recently he oversaw GIS development at New York City’s Departments of Transportation and Health and Mental Hygiene. He also managed GIS operations for the Census Bureau’s Philadelphia regional office leading up to the 2000 Census. He holds a masters of science degree in Geo-Environmental Studies from Shippensburg University and is a Microsoft Certified Application Developer.
Dave has an especially valuable combination of skills, integrating his experience and knowledge of GIS concepts and techniques with expertise in online programming environments. He provides an important contribution to CUR’s work, making use of the full suite of online tools as part of the growing “Web 2.0” environment to provide online, dynamic access to maps and statistical analysis from CUR projects so other research collaborators and the general public can gain new insights into our research findings.
